Philadelphia Public schools are off for Rosh Hashanah.  Need a fun and creative option for your kids so they don’t lose their back to school spirit?

With this 2-day creative camp, we will work with painting, drawing, sculpture, and mixed media to create awesome Autumn and Back to School Themed Creations! Art Camp workshops take place from 9-noon and include a short snack break.

Full day camp includes a lunch break, free play, and open studio time with supplementary Fall themed projects and activities during the afternoon.

  • Half Day: 9am – 12pm $50 per day

Toddlers and their caregivers will join Bethany of Songbird Music for singing and instrument playing.  Have fun singing along with the guitar, experimenting with percussion instruments, and dancing to familiar songs (you might learn some new ones, as well!)  Afterwards, join the Lume staff at the art tables to get creative with make and take art projects.  Themes and projects change weekly!

Reservations are not required, but are strongly encouraged since space is limited.

Friday Art Club for Teens is a fun, weekly series with a talented roster of guest teachers.  Come by after a long week at school, and join us in the studios to unwind and work on some popular favorites like: thrift store painting,Drawing, Painting, Sculpting  and more.  No real art experience is necessary.  Just a willingness and desire to get creative and have some fun!

Kids learn about rhythm, music and yoga movements while having fun singing along with Liz De Lise and her guitar.  They’ll be movin’ and groovin’ to a new theme each week and making an art project to go along with it!

PS: This time frame coincides with the Prenatal Yoga class at Wake Up Yoga and the Kettlebell Class at Katie Gould Strong at Bok on Saturday mornings.  So, if you want to get your fitness in while your kid is having fun, this is a good option for you!

On Mondays at Lume, your children will enjoy arts & literacy programming in a small group setting, with free local school pick-up!   Themes and read-a-louds will be based on a wide variety of books from the local library, in an effort to promote and spread Lume’s love of reading!  On Mondays, expect students to experience varied art forms like drawing, painting, and building with a little extra focus on fabrics, printing, and sewing!  We will read, create, and learn about art, science, world cultures, and more!

Tween Costume Sewing Class

This year, store bought Halloween costumes just won’t do.  Our costume sewing workshop gives tweens some basic machine sewing skills while helping them design and create a one of a kind Halloween costume.  They’ll learn how to successfully thread a machine, sew a straight seam, and put together the fiercest costume at their school’s haunted house.

Tinker Tots Creative Thinking Workshop

This drop-off class is designed for young creative thinkers and inventors aged between 3-5 years old.  Tinker Tots will be a fun filled, play-based interactive weekly event for your child to use their creative ability to solve a real life problem, innovate and create a tool or design based on the day’s supplies and challenges.  At Lume, we believe the arts are the gateway to creative thinking and that creative thinking is the best way to become a real-world problem solver.  Using a variety of art materials, random objects, and toys, students in this class will act as designers and be given the opportunity to reason creatively and envision multiple solutions to dilemmas through process not product related inventing and making.  If you are registering a la carte:  please do so at least 24 hours in advance!

With this class, students will have fun learning  basic drawing and painting skills while also learning about storytelling and character design.  Comic books are awesome.  Kids know it.  Grown Ups know it (just ask our neighbors over at South Philly Comics).  Everyone loves to get lost in a story! Young illustrators will learn some industry history and techniques along with how to apply their skills to the creation of original comic books.
